1.      INVITATION
We extend a cordial invitation to the 2nd International Seminar on Medicinal Plants & Herbal Products organized jointly by the Department of Botany, S.V. University, AP. Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Board, Hyderabad and A.P. State Council of Science & Technology (APCOST) from 27th to 29th December 2010 at S.V. University, Tirupati. The aim of the seminar is to provide a platform for eminent researchers, academicians, physicians, traditional medical practitioners, manufacturers & exporters of herbal products, members from the corporate sector, marketing consultants, farmers and NGOs from all over the world.
2.    ABOUT TIRUPATI

Tirupati is a world famous temple town with a population of about 3 lakhs and attracts about 1 lakh pilgrims every day from all over the world. Tirupati town is surrounded by other interesting places like Tirumala (Lord Balaji Temple), Srikalahasti, Kanipakam, Tiruchanur, Mangapuram and Chandragiri Fort etc. Tirupati is well connected by Air, Rail and Road. Air services are available from Hyderabad, New Delhi, Bangalore and Visakhapatnam. It is 135 kms from Madras and 250 kms from Bangalore. During the month of December the temperature ranges between 15-25°C. The university campus is about 3kms from Bus/Railway stations.
3.  ALUMNI MEET -GOLDEN JUBILEE YEAR (1959-2009)
The Department of Botany was established in the year 1959. The Department made great leaps and strides under the leadership of Prof. V. S. Rama Das and had been recognition as strong center of plant physiology both at National and International levels. Currently the department is actively involved in the areas of Biotechnology, Phytomedicines, Plant Pathology, Biodiversity & conservation of Medicinal plants. On this occasion we would like to arrange ALUMNI MEET & felicitate the distinguished members on this event with the collaboration of the Botanical Society, Department of Botany.
4.    MAJOR THEMES

The following are the selected topics for which the Scientific and Programme Committee is particularly seeking contributions. However, contributions for any topic in the field of Medicinal plants & Herbal Products will be considered. The programmes will comprise plenary lectures by invited speakers and oral/ poster/ video presentations, practical demonstrations and exhibitions. The official language of the seminar will be English.
1.      Medicinal plants in Ayurveda, Siddha and Ethnobotany

2.    Conservation - Cultivation, Organic forming,  propagation.

3.    Ayu-Genomics, Molecular biology & Biotechnology.

4.     Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry

5.    Herbal products and Advanced Clinical Research

6.    Herbal cosmetics and neutraceuticals

7.     Patents & Intellectual Property Rights (IPR); Quality Control and marketing.

5. . CALL FOR PAPERS & ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
The participants are invited to submit abstracts of original contribution for presentation during the seminar. (We humbly request all to send a copy of the abstract MS WORD FORMATE through e-mail to ismphp2010@gmail.com or sudarsanamg@gmail.com ).
The abstracts will be evaluated on the basis of their scientific merit by the experts in the concerned fields and if found suitable will be accepted for oral/poster/video presentation or for practical demonstrations. The abstract should include Title (in capital letters); Author(s) name(s) (with presenter’s name underlined) and institutional address. The abstract typed in double space should be as informative as possible and should not exceed more than 300 words. The abstract along with the duly filled-in registration form should emailed by 15th NOVEMBER 2010. Notification of accepted papers will be communicated to the presenting author(s) and listed in our web page. An official letter of invitation will be sent to foreign delegates for obtaining VISA to attend ISMPHP-2010. The abstract of all the accepted papers will be published in souvenir cum abstract book. Proceedings of Seminar
Efforts will be made to publish the seminar proceedings. An electronic copy of the Full-length paper should be submitted as per current science journal format. Authors are advised to note that only those papers, which are submitted prior to presentation, will be considered for publication in the proceedings.

7. Award
It is also proposed to honour distinguished scientists/teachers, research scholars, Herbalists, Herbal Medical Practitioners/manufacturers, Medicinal plant conservators and farmers with the following awards.
1) Merit of Excellence Award; 2) Vaidya Vidwan Award (The Best Physician)  3) Talented Scientist Award; 4) Talented Medical Practitioner Award 5) Talented Conservator Award 6) Outstanding Cultivator Award; 7) Outstanding Herbal Medical Formulator Award 8) The Best Exhibitor Award; 9) The Best Ayurvedic Practitioner Award and 10) Young Scientist Award (Age below 40).
Nominations for all the above awards should be sent in prescribed forms on or before 15th  DECEMBER  -2010 along with two passport size photos, a brief curriculum vitae and an article about (1,000-word ) their research contributions for the development of medicinal plants and herbal products and adjudicating fee. Best Presentation Award will be given to the delegates for the best paper & poster presentation in the international seminar on the recommendations of the adjudicating committee based on quality, originality and merits of the paper.

 9. TRAVEL SUPPORT & SIGHT SEEING
In view of the paucity of funds the delegates are advised to make their own arrangements for travel. However, partial support to a limited number may be considered.Visit to Tirumala Hills, the abode of Lord Venkateswara (Balaji) will be arranged on payment of Rs500/- per delegate. 10. ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation would be provided to limited number of delegates in university/TTD guest houses at nominal charges(Rs.500/- per day). Participants who wish to stay in hotels should indicate their preference and are advised to intimate and send advance payments or they can book online by clicking the selected hotel.
